o2 sensor heater error code S70 1999

The check engine light has come on and when i checked the codes, it came up as the o2 sensor heat circuit. I reset the computer but the code came up again after several sops and starts. the car runs fine, with no obvious faults. Ive been told by a trusted friend who is a volvo tech that this is a common fault and the o2 sesors still work even though the heating element is not operating normally. I was told to ignore the check engine light and to replace the o2 sensors at this time is a waste of money. When the o2 sensor fails the the engine will have running issues ans to wait untill then to replace them. Anyone have thoughts on this?
thanks,
Bob in Miami
