Rear View Mirror Snapped Off! S70 1998

Just when I was wondering what would break next, I got my answer. I was adjusting the rear view mirror on the way home from work and it snapped off in my hand! The metal has actually failed. The ball is still in the mirror housing and what's left of the stud is sticking out of the bracket. Does this happen often? And is there a good way to fix it? Right now I'm contemplating a drill, a metal stud, and some JB Weld. I don't know if that will be strong enough, though. And I would need to be able to get the bracket off of the roof somehow. Any ideas?

Man, I miss my 740. This S70 has been a nightmare since I bought it two years ago after my trusty wagon was totalled in a collision.

Thanks in advance for any advice that you guys can offer.
