Would an 850 driver like an S40 turbo??? S40-V40

I currently own a 1996 850GLT (which I seriously enjoy), but am considering a S40 turbo. Can you S/V40 drivers provide any feedback related to overall satisfaction, engine/transmission performance or reliability, what to look for, and what to avoid with the 40 series cars. Also I see that the 40 series runs a 1.9 liter - can anyone tell me if it is related to the B18/B20 from the sixties/seventies, or is it based on a Ford/Mazda design.
