A/C runs cold then hot then cold then hot.... S70 1998

I have a problem that might be similar to others posted. The A/C works fine until its over 90 degrees and the car sits outside. Then it blows its brains out getting cold in the cabin. By the time it gets cold (I have it set at 78) it starts blowing hot air. In a few minutes when you think you can't take it anymore it finally starts blowing cold again but fog comes out of the vents and it smells musty. That eventually goes away and all is well for a while. It will do again eventually. It seems to do it after the car sits in the sun and gets hot and when the sun is ridiculously bright. Today I tried covering the solar sensor with a white piece of paper. Hasn't done it again even though the thermometer said 99. Did I get lucky or does this work? I just gotta get thru the summer.
