Caliper bolts V70-XC70 1999

Hello Everyone,

Three questions. How do you best measure the thickness of the brake pad. I have a vernier caliper, but I really can't get it positioned to accurately measure the pad. I can guess pretty well, but I'm much more anal than that. Do I have to take the caliper off?

Question 2. In trying to remove the caliper guide bolts, they appear frozen. I had a 7 mm allen and I put an extender piece of pipe on it, but no action. Is this a job for repeated PB blaster applications?

Question 3. By my best estimation, the left pads were both about 0.28". When should they be replaced?

Thanks in advance for your help and expertise.
