Second new a/c evaporator in 20k miles?? 850 1993

Sorry if this is repetative, but I got an error message when I try to search.

A few weeks ago I noticed weak A/C in a relative's '93 850, with the compressor cycling every few seconds. Now, there's no cool air at all, and I'm suspecting the evaporator again, since that seems to be the weakest link in the 850 A/C.

Assuming it is the evaporator, and assuming the car is repaired and not just sold, is there anything that can be done to lengthen the life of the new evap? Specifically, I know newer Volvo's activate the blower when the car's off to dry the evap...could this system be retrofitted to this 850?

It is a single owner car in the northeast with the first new evap. in the 35k mile range. It only has 55k miles total, so I want to do everything possible to prevent this happening again if the car is kept. THANKS in advance for your help!!
