Hey i am having the exact same problem on my 97 115k too,white smoke on a cold start but my check engine light is on and it gave the secondary air injection system malfunction code. i have also noticed that i am loosing oil somehow, in about 3000-4000 miles i am left with about 2 quarts using synthetic blend 10W30. i have also noticed that on hard excellerations the check engine light starts to flash. i am assuming that i may need a ring job but i am still unsure.
