wastegate adjustment 850 1995

Folks, I'm sure this topic has been discussed before but please hear me out...

I've reviewed IPD's instructions for adjusting the base wastegate pressure setting at: http://www.ipdusa.com/pdf/wastegate_adjustment_94_02_turbo.pdf

What I am concerned about is that almost every independent mechanic I've asked to do this adjustment won't touch it. Yet, IPD and virtually every post out there claims this is safe if you don't go beyond 6-8PSI. What am I missing?

Also, has anyone had engine or turbo problems with this procedure? About the only issue that I see is that the Turbo life may be shortended because the turbo is being forced to hold more pressure for a longer time.

Please let me know your thoughts.
