1998 V70 door lock repair V70-XC70

Hi everyone,

I'm considering the purchase of a 1998 V70 (98k) and selling my 1989 240 Wagon (202k). I'm mostly considering swapping my 240 for the V70 for a/c and the upgraded safety features.

The V70 I'm looking at is in solid condition, but the driver rear door lock doesn't operate when locking/unlocking the driver's door. I imagine this could be a switch failure? The door locks on my 240 have worked flawlessly, so I'm wondering the following:

1) are these types of issues common in '98 V70s (ala. VW window cranks always falling off :)

2) self-repair: I'm fairly handy when working on my 240 (leaving the bigger jobs to my indy mechanic). I've taken off the door panels on my 240 to replace broken door handles, speakers, etc. Is this 'easily' done on the '98 V70?

3) '98 V70 Gestalt: again and again I'm amazed at how well Volvo designed easily replaced parts - would I find this to be the case with the V70 (changing headlamps, etc)

Thanks in advance to everyone who replies.

Cheers!
