Climate Control up in smoke 850 1994

My '94 850's climate control system stopped working. It started, or stopped I should say, when I was driving along and a lot of smoke came from the vents and the entire climate control shut down. Even today when I get in the vehicle I can smell what reminds me of an electrical fire. I can't do anything with it...heat, fan, A/C, nothing. Checked all the fuses...OK. Tried to get code, but the code light doesn't blink, it stays steady no matter what I try, i.e. ignition position, reseting, etc.
After reading some other posts, I have come to the conclusion that it is the "power unit" that is mounted behind the glove compartment. Should I assume that is the case for my car?? Want some feedback before I spend the money on repairing as I just recently purchased a V70 and want to sell the 850, but need to decided if I should fix it or not.
Thank you.
