mystery hole in valve cover 850 1997

We recently changed the spark plugs in our 20-valve turbo engine, and discovered a small hole between the 3rd and 4th plugs. The hole goes down about 3/8 of an inch, then there is a square-shaped hole offset inside it, and lots of oil has been coming out from it! The mechanic suggested we call a dealer to see if there should be a freeze valve there. Dealer parts man said no. Does anyone have any experience with this?
