Safety Concern S80

I spent the last couple of days browsing thru the NHTSA site reading the complaints S80 owners had for the past 5 years. For many years, my family drove the 240, the 740, 760, 960 and we all treasured the sense of safety. I have to admit that my volvo experience and volvo heritage which prompted us to consider the upgrade to S80 with little research. Now that we purchased this 2000 S80 and finding out after the fact about the many safety and reliability issues surrounding this particular year/model, my wife and I are seriously concerned about letting having my wife make the 50-mile, mostly hwy, daily commute to work using what one of the owners described as a "death trap". I am surprised that Volvo has thus far disregarded years worth concerns and safety concerns, thereby compromising and even risking tarnishing its hard-earned impeccable safety reputaion.

My question is: in the event the looming recall becomes a reality, would this really address all the safety concerns surrounding this model, given the deceit and denial attitude Volvo has thus far shown?
