There is a flat tab in the middle, windshield side of my dash that pops up shortly after I press it down into place. There are a couple of wires that are connected to it.

What is the tab? It annoys me, but I don't notice any lack of function of my car. Does it matter if the tab is popped up or not? Should I replace it with a tab that remains in place?
