Expansion tank cap 850 1996

www.FCPGroton.com has the new one for $4.00. Ask for part# 9445462, or search under Cooling/heating system for your car. http://www.fcpgroton.com/images/9445462.jpg
Actually from '93 on up (even newer P2 cars) all share this same expansion tank cap. I always keep an extra in the glove box just in case I have one go bad...especially troublesome when it happens on a weekend on a long trip.

Though I haven't had this problem on our current cars, on our old 850, I went through at least 4 of these. They would crack and spew coolant everywhere, at the most inopportune times and you really can't repair them (I tried HB Weld...everything). My mechanic told me that it is common for these to be over-tightened, and then they will crack. This is not necessary...just tighten enough to make a seal and hold the pressure.

I personally would rather buy a new one than look all over junk yards for one and then pay more and get one that may be defective. Just a thought.
