Gas cap door won't open. Solenoid okay. Relay? 850

Gascap door stopped opening last week. Had to use the wire loop pull to open it. Took out the little motor/solenoid, and it was all right. When connected to a twelve vote supply, it would cycle back and forth as you reversed the the leads to the battery, as it should. When I hit the remote lock, it locks the gas cap door. When I hit the remote open, it will not release the gas cap door. This tells me it is not the solenoid, but some relay back up the line that has stopped reversing the voltage to the little solenoid motor.

Can anyone out there tell me where to look next? Is it indeed a relay that reverses the voltage to the solenoid so it will attract and retract? Or is it something else. I don't want to run to a wrecking yard and score another solenoid, only to discover it's something else. Any advice much appreciated. Dick
