oil consumption increasing 850 1995

"db"s suggestion about the Marvel Mystery Oil is one you might try. Over the years I have used it successfully a few times myself. It's not really an additive to use regularly (but some folks who have used it forever swear by it...I think it's been around since Henry Ford)... add one can after you've changed the oil (but don't overfill)... you may get lucky.

I'm not very happy about accepting that this is just the rate at which your engine is now consuming oil, but I suppose it may be nearing that time when reality (gasp!!!) may have some say in the matter.

But let's do the math... if you change your oil every 5000 miles, and you use a quart every 1200 to 1500 miles, you add 3 quarts between oil changes... let's say that's $9.00. At your current rate of consumption, you'll be adding 5 qts. between changes... that's $15.00. So if you drive 20,000 miles per year, you'll be spending an extra $24.00 per year.

It's starting to sound like your car really doesn't need repairs. It's also possible that the oil comsumption will stay at this level, and not get any worse, for a long time to come. With no external signs of leakage, running well, and the internals properly serviced, I'd be concerned, but not worried at this point. All you can do is keep your eye on the oil usage... it'll either stabilize, or get worse to the point that you can identify the culprit.

I'm hoping that someone else has other suggestions.

Keep us posted? I'm kinda curious...
