Front Seat Recline Problem. Cable Repair 850

Problem is a front power seat reclines and won't return to upright. There are several very useful messages regarding this issue if you do a search, my contribution is a simple way to restore an apparently ok cable that has stopped functioning. The Bay 13 article is vital for removing the cable, but once out, if the cable appears ok (unbroken and when you twist one end of the inner "drive cable" the other protruding end turns freely) you can do this as a means to shorten the black plastic outer cable housing and allow the two inner drive cable ends to protrude further and pick up at the motor and seat gear points. You need a Dremel tool or equivalent. If you don't own one you will never regret this purchase. At each end of the cable is an aluminum end piece. It is held to the black plastic cable housing by 4-6 stamped impressions where the aluminum is pressed into the black plastic housing. Pull the inner drive cable out to leave the end you will work on free. Using a very small deburring or meteal grinding end piece on the Dremel, grind out these stamped impressions. Place the cable end in a vice with the aluminum housing above the vice jaws(the black plastic cable is not compressed, the jaws simply provide a stop for the edges of the aluinum end piece). Pull the plastic cable down thru the held end-piece and it will separate from the aluminum end piece. Using a Dremel cutting wheel, cut appox. 5/8 in. off the exposed plastic cable. Re-install the cable end (I simply roughed up all connecting surfaces and used Goop sealant). Reinstall the cable and test for full function. See related tips for getting the motor to function thu a full range. I started with the motor set to full recline extent. Had to bump stop it further back after installation but the end result was a no cost repair.
