Suspension noise 850 1997

I have an elusive clunking come from the suspension of my 855 when I hit little bumps. Some say it might be sway bar links; others say it may be the upper spring seats of the front struts. Are there any simple tests I can do to determine the location/cause of the noise? Thanks to all in advance. I realize that if you live in New Orleans that I might have to wait a while for a response. ;-)
