Fuel pump installation 850 1984

Don't do in your grarage at home. You do not want to burn your car and house up!!! Do not use regular light bulbs (drop light) around gasoline. Disconnect battery before removing fuel pump. No open flames or sparks.

To get to the fuel pump, you look under the access front access panel for the spare tire and take out the gray liner over the spare tire. On the passenger side right behind the rear seat you will see a 6" round cover with a handful of 10mm nuts on it. Take the nuts off and gently pry the cover up. If you look at the following picture: This is a picture I found in the forum of Oliver's Fuel Pump. Thanks

This is what you will see. There are 2 fuel lines. One is marked with yellow tape and the other is plain. Make note of which one comes off from which port. I think the yellow one is the fuel return line.

At this point be VERY VERY careful. Gasoline vapors!!!

The fuel line connectors are quick disconnect fittings. To undo them, you gently pull up on the bottem of the connector and it will compress. This disengages the fitting and then you can pull upward to remove the fitting from the port. The wire from the fuel pump lead over toward the wheel well and there is a connector you can undo. After both fuel lines and the wires are disconnected, you can use a large screwdriver to gently but firmly remove the large "nut" that holds the fuel pump in the tank. After you remove the nut you can gently pull and twist the fuel pump and it will start sliding out. At the bottom of the fuel pump is a screen that is a little larger than the hole in the fuel tank so be careful that you do not damage it on the way out.

Everything goes back together the way it came apart. Hope this helps.
