P1615 code ETS light V70-XC70 1999

Have any of you pulled a fault code when your electronic throttle module went out?
My 1999 V70T5 had the ETS light come on about 2 months ago. I pulled the code with a generic code reader, and got P1615 (Permanent fault in control module - only cure replace ECU module). I cleared the code and the ETS light went out and stayed out until today.
Today - same thing. My wife limps the car home. Running crappy & the ETS light is on. P1615 code. Cleared the code, the car runs fine, & no ETS light.
A "permanent" fault in the ECU won't go away for two months just because you clear the code. Does a failed throttle body module display the P1615 code? (It should be P1600 - P1605 or P1608 - P1613).
Any ideas on this one? I don't want to throw an $800 throttle module at the problem if it is not the throttle & the code says it is not the throttle. And the cost of an ECU is crazy (no chance of finding a used one for the T5 five speed).
