I would say that the control module is bad or going bad. This a very common problem with the 98's. As a single mom I would find a mechanical friend. you can have him remove the module and send in for repair for about $150. the removal and reassembly is very straight forward with the proper tools. There are also detailed instructions on Bay 13. Check the archive files on this site. Very helpful
Break fluid should be replaced every 2 years.
