Solution to squeaking 'bearing' from the dashboard

Hello All,

I found out the cause of the "squeaking" noise coming from the dashboard, that sounding like a bearing in the blower. The noise could only be heard when the car was traveling in excess of 50 mph. It was coming from the location of where the "A" column connected to the dashboard on the driver's side.

I have to recognize and give thanks to Klaus C, who put me on the right trail, as to the cause. He suggested I check to make sure the rubber strip that runs the length of the driver's door was secure, and was not the cause of the noise. The strip was secure, but I noticed the rubber strip that circles the fuse box under the hood seemed to be protruding to far out. I lifted the hood and pushed the strip back into place. I then sprayed the strip with silicone. My theory was the strip was rubbing against the hood or itself once the car exceeded 50 mph. That cured the noise. Thanks to all who responded, and I hope my experience will help others.

I am very glad to be rid of this maddening noise.

Hugh
