tranny help needed for my 850 850 1994

we never use our e-brake so that wasn't an issue. teh one thing that concerns me is that the back up lights come on but the tranny doesn't engage so I'm thinking it's not the p&n switch. I just hope it's not gonna be a spendy fix. I've put over 500 miles on it the last 3 days and have had no problems or issues. kind of a cruddy time (xmas) to have this happen though.
