Add me to the list of ETM failures V70-XC70 2000

As predicted... the ETM on our 2000 V70 seems to have failed (and on the way to drop off relatives at the airport the day after Thanksgiving no less!) Was able to pull off the freeway, restart the car and resume the trip to the airport under normal power. The return trip (~45 miles) was a little more challenging. Had to pull off to the shoulder probably ten times to restart the car. The first couple of times, restarting cleared the ETS warning light. After that though the Check Engine light came on as well as the ETS light and both stayed on the rest of the way.

In case this happens to you maybe this will help: The ETM was fine during city driving--it seemed like the throttle feathering of the highway was what would cause the failure and subsequent loss of power. I finally had good success with simulating city driving on the highway. I did this by alternately flooring then coasting, flooring then coasting over and over to maintain basically 60mph to 55, 60 to 55, 60 to 55... Cars behind me probably thought I was crazy but it was better than becoming a sitting duck on the freeway!

Anyway the car is at the dealer now and they're going to check it out, though they say they haven't heard anything from Volvo yet about an extended warranty.

Question: Who should I write to to complain about this unsafe ordeal the ETM put me through? NHSTA? Volvo directly? anyone else?

Corey
