Leather seats 850

Oliver--went through the leather seat thing last spring for a friend's 96 wagon. His driver's seat was all cracked and way beyond salvaging with Leatherette or any of the other condition/restorers. Walked into a wrecking yard and found a number of 97 850 seats that were in much better condition than his, but for the color. I did extensive checking on 98 S-V-70 seats but found Volvo had made a few changes regarding mounting. It's easier by far to just buy the whole seat with the airbag in it, unbolt the old and bolt in the new. Changing out the leather takes time, but is not difficult. The leather from a S-V-70 will work, but not the mount itself. The tan shade was still used in the 98 70 series. Get the code and take it with you when you look. There are people on ebay who will sell you just the leather they have stripped off the frame, because it's so expensive to send the whole seat (just punch in Volvo leather). But if you're in an area where people drive a lot of Volvos, your chances of finding a driver's seat with acceptable leather is good. The passenger side seat won't work on the driver's side because of the airbag in the side. Ditto just the leather. The seats I looked at in wrecked cars were in the $100 plus range. Look around because some yards want twice that, but most price them around a hundred, especially if you go out in the yard and take it out yourself, which is what you want to do to know how to reinstall it.
