As an engineer, if the matchstick worked, I would recommend putting a new matchstick in place and securing with superglue (or any other cyanoacrylite resin or your favorite adhesive).

Like the old coot said at a motorcycle shop in Atlanta when I inquired about carb rebuilding, "If it runs good, don't let nobody put they f*(k|n6 hands on it".
