A pint of Dextron trans fluid does clean engine and can help eliminate a valve tap.

I respectively disagree with your mechanic. I found no problem to switching between dino and Mobil 1. Actually I used Mobil 1 in winter as temps can go below -20 degrees while skiing. Switch back to Castrol 10x30 during other three seasons. I do change oil about every 3K miles.
