Recently my '94 850 experienced similar problems, such as stalling on cold start, and losing power in the middle of heavy traffic, and a few hair-standing stalling episodes in high speed driving. I cured this series of problems with the replacement of a fuel pump relay, an MAF and cleaning of the Idle Air Control Valve. I also cleaned the throttle body and put in a new PCV valve. Followed to that I use a device to suck in a can of BG Fuel Injection Cleaner behind the throttle body for more combustion deposit cleaning.
I have not had a similar problem since. At 171K miles, the 850 feels new again.
