Klaus brings up a good point - any oil or dirt on the bulb will cause it to fail in short order. If you do touch the bulb, wipe it off with some rubbing alcohol before installing it. The bases on these bulbs are plenty big enough that even cavemen like myself can handle them with relative ease.
