If the label is missing the engine number is actually stamped into the block. You can see it if you lean over the timing belt cover and look straight down on the exhaust side. It is punched into the block in a dot matrix fashion on the very front of the block, underneath where the water pipe bolts to the exhaust side of the head and just infront of the #1 exhaust port. It is facing straight up and it will list the engine designation as well as the engine number, hit it with a little brakes spray cleaner and shine a bright light on it an you can see it.
