I did an air pump a little over a year ago. If it's a Pierburg pump, the Volvo OEM pump, it'll work. Pierburg makes pumps for several euro cars (BMW, VW, etc). When I did the operation, I used a VW one, and I had to change an adapter or two, but that was it. Pierburg pumps are the same.

To fulfill the function of the air pump, all you need, literally, is something that blows air. Search the archives...I seem to remember an individual who managed to rig up one of those air pumps that comes along with inflatable camping matresses, and it worked fine without setting off the MIL.
