About a month ago, I received a postcard from Volvo Canada advising of a free 44 point inspection for 2002 and older Volvos. Since my CPO warranty will be up in a month or so, I thought I'd take advantage of it and I booked an appointment. A couple of days before, it occurred to me that Volvo Canada might be doing this to get cars in for the ETM software upgrade.
I asked the service advisor about it when I dropped the car off, and he said, no, the software upgrade was not part of the inspection, but he'd have the software version checked. (It had already been upgraded last fall to deal with ETM-related problems). When I picked the car up, the invoice showed another software upgrade at no charge.
So, everything's up to date, but I haven't seen any official letter.
BTW, I have had no drivability issues since the updgrade last November, and I've driven nearly 10,000 miles since then. The ETM is still original at 87000 km (54,000 miles).
