Cooling system testing??? 850 1997

I am suspicious of the cooling systems electric fan. I have not heard it kick on for awhile. It's my wifes car but I normally hear the electric fan run after she gets home when I'm out with the kids and I heven't heard it run in awhile. I would like to test the coolant temp sensor, fan relay and electric fan to see what's up. Any decent test procedures? I don't want to replace parts for no reason.
