If you have turbo it's suppose to shut off during hard acceleration to help with the turbo boost. Problem is, it's also suppose to come right back on when you stop boosting. I'm sure others will chime in but it sounds to me that possibly your compressor clutch is having an issue and needs to be re-gapped.
