I think you have multiple problems. Just look at that top (circular- I think is what you're referring to) and see if it's busted. Easy and cheap repair to replace it with a poly-mount (fcpgroton.com is your friend). In regards to the axle. Is it clicking? Should be if busted for some time. Probably be best just to swap out the entire axle than to repack and just replace the boot. Also, fcpgroton.com is your friend here (core swap) and cheap. Otherwise, get a better one from raxles.com
