Let me get this straight, you changed out your own evaporator which requires removing the dash and the climate control box yet you opted to pay to have the drier replaced? Something does not sound right with that statement. The shop charged you $240.00 to change out your drier and evacuate and recharge the system and they were using your own parts? Depending upon the labor rate that they bill at I would say that is not a bad price for what you got. If they are billing at $60.00 or so per hour (cheap) then they did gouge you on the hours of labor charged. If they are billing somewhere between $75-$100 then they are right in line with the amount of time they charged and the dollar amount is about where it should be. $60.00 for R-134a is about the going rate for 2 pounds. My shop and all of the other shops that I deal with charge between $30-$40 a pound for the stuff and about twice that for R-12.
