ABS kicks in when it shouldn't 850 1997

Shuttering brake peddle is not common and should not occure. You could turn it off by removing the fuse to see if it still happens, but first, I would check your tires, all 4, for uneven wear and correct sizes.
It could just be a bad rotor because one of the slide pins is no longer sliding and needs grease. Check the pads for uneven wear to verify that.
