Yes, swap out the ignition contact plate first and then see if the shiftlock still screws with you. If it does then change that out too. The contact plate is a cake walk, all you need to do is to remove the plastic housing around the column and it is wide open.
Release the column adjusting lever and both drop the column down as well as pulling it out as far as it will go.
Remove the two torx head screws on the bottom of the black plastic column cover.
Make sure that the key is out of the ignition
You will need a very long torx bit (4") of the correct size or a long torx screwdriver to reach up inside of the holes in the corner of the lower plastic housing that you just pulled the two screws out of. In both of the front corners on the bottom of the cover you will find holes that allow you access to the two screw that hold the top down onto the bottom. Remove these screws and then remove the top, paying attention to how it hooks into the lower cover at the front edge.
Now remove the lower cover, it will have to be wiggled out of the way and the contact plate will be right there on the left side. Pull the big plug off of the end of it, remove the two screws and change it out.
I do not know if there is a wild cat replacement version of that or not but I would use only a factory Volvo part.
Good luck,
Mark
