In your case too, aren't there any check engine codes? If you have an evident problem I would have that diagnosed before doing anything else.
A stall test can be done to check a transmission which is apparently working ok, as follows:
Find a safe open place to avoid accidents/injury if something goes wrong. Use your head.
Engine and transmission should be thoroughly warmed up.
Set parking brake and apply foot brake and/or use other methods to make sure the car cannot move under any circumstances.
Put the car in drive.
Briefly (1-3 sec) floor the accelerator just long enough for you to read the tach to see how high the engine revs up.
The maximum reading you get is the "stall speed". It is different for different gearboxes and cars but I think it should usually be about 2200-2700 rpm.
If the stall speed is higher the trans is starting to slip or has some other defects.
If much lower the engine may be out of tune or otherwise not producing enough power for the test.
Do this only as you judge really necessary. It can obviously destroy your trans if at all overdone.
