Can someone tell me why...

Manual Transmissions are clearly preferred in Europe, even big Bimmers and Mercedes all come with Manuals. Manuals are clearly more simply and yes they do last longer!. Yes, you may need a clutch replaced occssionally but I have yet to do it and have 2 volvos with over 200K!. BEtter mileage, 10-15%!. More control. You can't shift an Automatic from 1st to 3rd or 3rd to 5th or 5th to second.
