Dealers around me say it's not necessary up to 100K. Still, by the smell of it (color was ok) I decided to flush at ~50K. Dealer quoted $500. Local Volvo-specialized shop quoted ~$280 which I went for. They used the Volvo fluid but confirmed that Mobil 3309 is exactly the same thing.

Can't say that it's gotten any better or worse, but I've never had any issues with transmission (after the neutral switch disabled) anyway. Peace of mind, maybe, is the single biggest advantage. V70'01 T5 AT.
