Another goofy fix that has worked for me is make sure that your battery terminals are clean. I had this problem seveal falls in Seattle when the rain started. It seems that the Volvo electric system runs very close to the limit and a little resistence created by a bad connection was causing idle problems and problems at start. Also the car stalled once or twice. Noticed battery terminals were not clean, fixed problem. Also clean the flame trap, which most people do with throttle body.
Good luck
PS hey, anyone know what years are the recall for on the ECM. I had that problem also on a 93 850.
thx
