1996 means that you need a scan tool to read the codes. I would say go to Autozone, except that your car no longer runs :)
Have you tried disconnecting the AMM? Are you getting spark? There are a dozen sensors which could have gone away, but with out a scan tool, you will never know which one.
Too bad you didn't fix the CEL problem.
