Hey there, I'm not a smart gear-head like the others on brick board, but a few years ago I had to replace the MAF sensor in my 95 850. Apparently the fuel mixture was wrong and causing the catalytic converter to overheat thus causing the sulfur rotten egg smell. After replacing that MAF, I believe that fixed the problem. I think the car was also belching purple smoke during hard acceleration and down shifts.
Just wanted to let you know, it was my experience that I did NOT need a new cat, but also the MAF is a very expensive part.
