The X5 is supposed to be quite reliable (esp. with their sixer)... but... BMW service is as bad, if not worse than Toyota's. BMW exemplifies the typical German (and French... and Japanese) arrogance surrounding their engineering. Take a look at how they handled the cylinder liner problems in their earlier V8s. If you're going to choose one over the other based on the quality of service, I'd go with Volvo any day.
