How often or when do the ABS units fail? S70 1998

It sounds like this is a common failure on the S70/V70 Volvos. Am I correct? Is the failure time or mileage-dependent? Or is it environmental, such as occuring to folks who live in the salted-road part of the country? Or is it random, where some component simply fails or a solder joint breaks? Thanks.
