"FWIW, 1993-1995 PNP switches do not break.", this is not entirely true. The PNP switch in my 1995 did break. Rapid ratcheting the shifter back and forth about 20 times did not work as time past.
I ended up replacing the switch and now, no fear of cold morning (down to single digit or sub-zero with wind chill). The reverse light is also brighter too due to the better contact of the switch. I have not seen this bright for a long time.
