a few pointers.
1) spend the extra few bucks and make sure to get OEM struts. I got cheaper 3rd party ones, but they have too much oompf, now the tailgate swings open too hard...
I learned my lesson.
2) I used a step ladder to hold open the gate (supported right behind the latch), works like a dream. Better make sure that gate is supported very securely.
3) If you have trouble getting the new ones on because the seem to be too long or too short: The forward facing ball joints can be repositioned by loosening the bolts with a 12mm wrench.
4) Be gentle when prying off the plastic trim. Do it in warm weather. I did mine in the dead of winter and they were very brittle. Age may be a factor too.
