My sister is getting ready to driver herself from Dallas to DC to start grad school and her 98 S70 is acting up.
The car recently got a new coil, new plugs, dis cap, and wires. It has run no problem for 2k since then.
So now all of a sudden when she starts the engine cold it will not hold an idle, the engine kicks and surges and eventually dies. There is no tach movement and hitting the accelerator does nothing. it fights off death for maybe 10-15 seconds then gives in. When she tries to start it a few minutes later it will often start no problem.
Once the engine is running it will run smooth until the next time she tries a cold start. warm startups are never a problem.
So the Autozone guys read her codes and said something about zone 1 problems or a cat issue.
I'm a 240 guy, so if this was my car I would say it was an Idle Air Controler, dirty TB, or an AMM issue. Perhaps a vacum leak or finally possibly a bad O2 sensor.
Any thoughts? She is headed to Austin tonight so I can try and fix it. I've got a good volt meter if somebody has a list of test values I can check everything with.
THanks
Matt
