Your comment about the climate control changing points to you being correct about which light was flashing. The ECC uses the charge light to inhibit fan speed if the engine is not running.
Most likely answer here is that the alternator brushes have reached the end of their useful life and are barely touching the slip rings. The cure is to replace the brushes (inexpensive), voltage regulator (more expensive but includes the soldered brushes), or complete alternator. The flashing light is your warning. It will soon stop flashing and be on steadily.
